MoniTag Guide
Everything you need to know about your MoniPay identity.
A MoniTag is your human-readable identity on the MoniPay protocol. It replaces long, confusing wallet addresses with something easy to remember.
Anatomy of a MoniTag
- Format: Starts with
@(e.g.,@monipay). - Length: 3 to 20 characters.
- Characters: Letters (a-z), numbers (0-9), and underscores (
_). - Uniqueness: Every MoniTag is unique across the entire protocol.
Why Use a MoniTag?
- Error Prevention: No more double-checking 42-character hex strings.
- Branding: Merchants can use their business name (e.g.,
@blue_cafe). - Social Integration: MoniTags are used by MoniBot to identify users on Twitter/X.
Registration Rules
- First-Come, First-Served: Once a MoniTag is claimed, it cannot be taken by someone else.
- Permanent: Currently, MoniTags cannot be changed once registered. Choose wisely!
- Multi-Chain: Your MoniTag works across all chains supported by MoniPay (Base, BSC, etc.).
Best Practices for Businesses
- Use your official brand name.
- Keep it short and memorable.
- Avoid using too many underscores or numbers unless they are part of your brand.
- Display your MoniTag QR code at your physical checkout counter.
